Monarch Magnetics

Operational geomagnetic intelligence.

Monarch Magnetics provides high-accuracy magnetic-field models, regional corrections, and time-varying information for directional drilling and other operations where magnetic-field accuracy matters.

New release / November 1, 2026

HDGM2027 is available.

HDGM2027 introduces 10-arcminute global crustal-field resolution and location- and activity-dependent uncertainty for magnetic wellbore surveying. Established HDGM software and coefficient-file workflows continue under Monarch.

Magnetic models and corrections.

HDGM2027 provides the global reference field. IFR1 adds regional crustal detail. Space Weather Correct (SWC) estimates changes in the magnetic field during operations.

Three co-registered magnetic declination surfaces over the Permian Basin labeled IGRF, HDGM, and IFR1, showing progressively finer spatial structure on a shared color scale.

IFR1 correction at survey time IFR2
Permian Basin example. IGRF, HDGM and IFR1 show increasing detail in magnetic declination over the same area; SWC-CONUS adds the time-varying correction shown below.

2

IFR1

Regional crustal correction

Regional 3D corrections for crustal structure beyond the global reference, with depth-dependent uncertainty.

3

Space Weather Correct

Time-varying correction (SWC)

Global and regional corrections for changing external fields. Regional SWC with compatible IFR1 supports an IFR2 reference.

Uncertainty and validation Model uncertainty and comparisons with observations help assess each reference and correction.

Directional drilling

Magnetic referencing for wellbore positioning.

Reference-field uncertainty contributes to wellbore-positioning uncertainty. HDGM2027, IFR1 and SWC address complementary sources of magnetic error, helping drilling teams select an appropriate reference and correction strategy.
